Mid-50s male guitarist and singer looking to move my musical life north. I’ve been actively working in NYC area rock/country/pop cover bands for the last few years. I have recently started weekending in Western Massachusetts, which conflicts with working as a musician in the NYC area. Just seeing what turns up with this posting!
Here’s my range of abilities:
Lead and harmony vocals (esp strong for country, classic and modern), know how to front a band and engage a crowd. Tenor voice with strong lows, decent highs, and a bit of roughness and twang. Low key stage persona but able to connect with all kinds of audiences. Still look like a rock musician in my 50s.
Lead and rhythm guitar (strong across the board, country chicken picking, blues-rock shredding, R&B and funk)
Keyboards — light piano and synthesizer work, enough for most classic rock band situations that don’t do keyboard-focused styles
Assorted other instruments — strong bass, solid mandolin, lap steel, cello
Songwriter — mostly country stuff, but some of it is good!
I do have my own high quality club-sized PA, and way too many pro level amps and guitars. I am experienced with digital live and recording gear, know music theory well, read music well, am a music history nerd, have a pro attitude, and am always down for rehearsal until it shines. Music is about fun and friendship for me, not money or ego (well, always a little ego, right?). But I like doing it professionally for the satisfaction of doing it well.
Seeing what’s out there. I’m easygoing and in no rush. Would love to back a serious singer-songwriter — acoustic and/or electric — or play and sing for a classic country honkytonk/ rockabilly band, open to country/rock/pop cover or original bands, including occasional subbing (but just not human jukebox corporate top 40, been there, done that, not my thing now). Also interested in recording projects. Or just jamming on spec with good players. Or just making friends who take music seriously in my new community.
