Danelectro "The Eisenhower" octave fuzz, used, $85. Sounds great on either guitar or bass. It has controls for volume, fuzz, treble, and bass, as well as a "flat/sculpt" switch. It can give you a huge volume boost if you want it -- I generally kept the volume knob turned most of the way down to be pretty close to the level of my un-effected signal. The fuzz knob gives you a wide range of gain level and texture to play around with, and I love it when a pedal has independent treble and bass controls rather than a single tone knob. The mini toggle switch for "flat" and "sculpt" settings controls the midrange frequencies of your sound.
A previous owner removed the finish, which did not affect the functionality in any way. You could re-label the controls, paint it whatever wacky color you choose, or keep the mysterious plain metal look.
Here's a quote from Guitar Interactive Magazine (issue 66, January 2020) that describes the pedal's range of tones pretty well:
". . .[T]he Eisenhower is an octave-up fuzz pedal that takes its inspiration from the Univox/Shin-Ei Super Fuzz. Compared to the Roger Mayer Octavia, the Super Fuzz is significantly fatter and thicker sounding, and the octave up effect is a little more subtle. It’s still very reactive to your guitar’s pickup selector and tone controls, with darker settings producing a more pronounced “octave” effect, while brighter guitar sounds will yield more of a “textural” effect with a “tearing velcro” quality . . .
"There’s a pretty huge amount of gain in the Eisenhower that goes way beyond “vintage” levels of fuzz, but the texture and grind are so good that even the most extreme gain settings sound rich and full of character."
Included: original box, suede protective pouch, manual.
