For sale is a 1998 John Deere 4100, manual gearbox, diesel tractor, with a John Deere 60" mid mower.
When I purchased three years ago, both the tractor and mower deck had been professionally painted. Additionally, the deck had been sandblasted prior to paint and any bad idlers and spindles were replaced. All tires were replaced. All gear and hydro fluids were changed, as well as coolant. Overall, it's a good machine that runs well. I've put 60 hrs on it it since having it.
The running gear works fine. 4WD works as it should, differential lock functions as it should. The only quirk I've noticed is when backing up a grade the shifter will slide (not pop out) of position into neutral. I'm guessing a weak detent spring which doesn't warrant the trouble to fix for how infrequently it happens. Also, it could probably use a set of glow plugs. It starts fine in warm weather but it's cold blooded. I never ran it in the winter and didn't bother with it. The plugs are NGK, about 40 bucks a set.
The reason for selling is I bought this as a back-up to our other mower. As it's worked out I haven't used it as much as I thought I would and it sits mostly.
The best I can do is 4500.00. Which is a very fair price. The price is firm. Located at the Mass/NY line at I-90.
