You undoubtedly have been hearing
recently about Home Energy Efficiency. The national drive to reduce energy
consumption, reduce our national Carbon Footprint as well as reduce our
dependency on foreign energy supplies is focused on household energy use, one of

Simply stated the blower door is a
fantastic tool to find places that leak heated air from the conditioned space,
i.e. indoors to the outdoors. This is a bad thing!

Sure, spending many thousands of
dollars on buying an new energy efficient boiler will save energy expense but
what if the efficiently heated air is still leaking from your home. The
gain is lost.
With a blower door test we can
identify leaks in the shell of your home. Often fixing these leaks is a simple
matter requiring basic skills and inexpensive materials.
A home visit will take between 1 and
2 hours during which time we close the home as if in wintertime, run the blower
door as we move through the house ,room by room, attic and basement, to identify
leaks to the outside. It's a very simple concept but highly effective in saving
huge amounts in heating expense. In addition to saving you money your home will
be more comfortable as we will eliminate drafts and cold spots throughout your
home. Air quality can also improve by ensuring adequate ventilation that will
discourage mold and dampness which can seriously damage your home.
Old houses are notoriously drafty and
hard to heat. They were built without regard to energy costs. They can be
enormously expensive to heat. New homes can be built with efficient windows and
adequate insulation but on or two voids in a wall or attic can be a drain on
your budget as hot air passes up and away out of your home. Many builders
are unaware of the critical nature of their finish works as regards to energy
