You missed the point.
I don't have time to read the DRAFT proposal for the Climate Change Treaty nor do I have time to read the 1000 page proposed legislation on Health Care Reform. To run this very complex country, we have politicians who are supposed to do that. Of course they don't either, but it is their jobs and rather than giving up to the stupid idea that we should be informed about minutia to keep them informed we should do a better job of electing good people to represent us.
We don't have a direct democracy and we never have. We have to elect people who are both intellegent and honorable and then trust them to do their part in representing us. Thus far we've not managed to elect those sorts of people very well - as evidenced by the previous President, the current minority party and yes, even a large number of the majority party in Congress. If we spent more time evaluating our prospective politicians with some measure other than whether we'd be happy to have a beer with them, or whether they cut a nice image with our bases, perhaps we'd not need to worry any about this.
The last President was elected because of his family's connections, his supposed comittment to a fundamentalist religion and his "good old boy" mannerisms. The current President was largely elected on the basis of his skin color, his youth, his wife's demeanor and a whole lot of hype. Is it any wonder that neither of these men are worthy of the job of running this country?
With regard to the paranoid fantasies of the extreme right over the climate change bill - their fears are pure nonsense. We aren't giving away the constitution anymore than they gave it away when Truman signed the NATO TREATY in 1949. Treaties are important and that is why the founding fathers put the process in the hands of the President and the Senate. If you don't like the result, hire better people to do the job. Reading a draft and getting all hot and bothered about that and screaming about "giving away the constitution" just simply fosters the already rampant rush to dumb this county down to roughly the level of a small smooth river stone. It won't be long before we are barely literate, drooling idiots standing in a pool of our own waste crying about the smell.
Do something about that.
