Sometimes landlords try to impose extra charges on tenants like a pet fee. In Massachusetts, extra fees such as pet fees are illegal. Nevertheless, a landlord may refuse to let you move into an apartment if you do not pay this fee, even if it is illegal. If you decide to pay the extra fee because you are afraid you will lose the apartment, make sure you get a written, signed, and dated receipt for the money you paid. The receipt should say exactly what the money is for. This receipt is very, very important. If you later decide to challenge this extra fee or deduct it from your future rent, you will have proof of what the money was used for. (M.G.L. c. 186 s.15B)

My fiance and I have been searching endlessly to find a suitable home for our small family. It's just the three of us; my fiance, our five year old, and myself. I currently live with my mother just outside of Boston, but am anxious to move closer to my fiance and his family who currently live in the Springfield area. Gas prices have been a tremendous strain on our family, having to travel back and forth to Boston from Springfield and all.

The school year is rolling around and we would love nothing more than to have our daughter enrolled in Kindergarten before September. So, WE ARE ABLE TO MOVE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

More about our family:
I recently graduated from a Medical Administrative program in October and worked temporarily for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. My fiance currently works for Comcast. Our five year old daughter is energetic, funny, and smart. She will be attending preschool in the fall.

As of now, our monthly income is only about $2000, but once we are moved and I have secured employment our monthly income will more than double to approximately $4200+.

We are a pleasant, fun-loving, easy going family in need of a home. We just want to be together. My fiance and I are in our early 20s and have a five year old daughter. We are just looking for a nice home in a nice neighboorhood.

We are ALSO looking for:

-- RENT: under $800 per month.

-- Preferrably a home that has gas and/or electric (heat and hotwater).

-- At least 2 bedrooms and 1 bath (more is better, but we'll settle for the minimum because we are so anxious to be together).

-- We would prefer to live in a single family, 2-4 family, duplex, or townhome type apartment. We will also consider small apartment complexes and condos in the Springfield area.

-- An apartment with a stove and refrigerator included are also preferred.

-- We are a non-smoking couple (We would prefer our neighbors be non-smoking as well).

-- We don't own or plan to own any pets.
