Case in point...while I was at the apartment a few weeks ago my friend who lives across the street came over to see me. He had his dogs with him.
I know his dogs and they are very well trained and behaved. The dog wasn't in the apartment for 2 min even when she proceeded to shit on the carpet (I had an appointment to have them cleaned the very next day so it wasn't a huge problem) but there you have it.
He was oh so apologetic and left right away but the experience made me know that I am right about not allowing pets in my place.
Also Dogs in an apartment are a huge liability to the landlord, if th dog bites someone it is the homeowners insurance that will be contacted NOT the pet owner.
Although I do have my own pets and love animals, owning having to maintain a place that allows pets is a big liability.

- First picks for cities are Northampton or Easthampton. Can branch out further if the right thing comes along!

- Work from home, east most meals at home- spend 75% of my time at home. (Although some travel for work.)

Prefer to be in a quiet, serene environment surrounded by nature. I'm not talking isolated, just a quiet and peaceful setting, with a degree of privacy. Rustic is fine, although I'm not interested in primitive. I like my creature comforts too much, and if the bathroom has a tub, that is a big plus! There must be high-speed internet availability in the area.

Target rental period is mid-October through mid-May for a total of 7 months. I can be flexible and would consider an 8-month rental agreement from Oct. 1st - May 31st if this timeframe works better for you and if it feels like the right place to me.

Can pay up to $600 a month. Ideally, this would include all (or most) utilities). I am happy to discuss a possible house-sitting arrangement. I can even do some barter for reduced rent if there are projects within my scope (including housecleaning!).


ABOUT ME:

Mature female, age 55, clean, quiet, reliable and respectful of your property. I am a landlord myself and understand the importance of having a good tenant who takes care of the premises and pays the rent on time. I promise to do both of these things!

Spend a lot of time at home and eat most of my meals at home (guess you can say I am the homebody type), plus I work on my computer from home (hence, the need for high-speed internet access).

One cat, age 12, who has been with me since he was 6 weeks old. He sleeps a lot and spends most of his time indoors (esp. in winter), although it would be nice to be in a setting where it would be safe to let him out now and then since he has always been an indoor/outdoor cat (but always IN at night!).

Homeowner of a seasonal cottage on the Rustic Ridge in Northfield, MA. The cottage does not have central heating, and town water is only provided from May 1 - Oct. 31. Hence, my need for a "winter home". I moved from California last summer to be closer to my elderly father and disabled brother. My father lives in Shelburne Falls, and my brother lives in Sunderland, and I spend summers in Northfield. Would consider most geographic locations within a reasonable driving distance of these areas.

Rented the same apartment in California for 21 years, and the landlords loved me as a tenant. I can provide references in the local area as well.

The apartment must have heat and hot water included. Electricity and cable, etc I will take care of. Can furnish if unfurnished. We are well capable of mowing lawns, shoveling snow, and most other outdoor care-work. I will come with references and first/last/security.

HOUSING I NEED:
- A private living space (studio or 1-bedroom apartment) in Western Massachusetts for about 6-10 months.

- Prefer a stand-alone building- a cabin, cottage, or detached studio apartment (will consider converted basement or garage, will definitely consider HOUSE-SIT arrangement). Must be someplace I can record music during the day (inoffensive, orchestral pop and tv jingles) without bothering people OR being bothered by outside sounds.

- Appreciate if my home has good bus, bike, or foot accessibility to modern-day needs (grocery, post office, coffee/bakery).

- First picks for cities are Northampton or Easthampton. Can branch out further if the right thing comes along!

- Would like to pay $400-$600, for the right place.


MY LIFESTYLE:
- Work from home, spend 75% of my time at home, east most meals at home. Homebody. (Although some travel for work.)

- Responsible, tidy and clean. A former landlord, myself.

- No smoking, no drugs, only a light drinker on occasion.

- Will be living with two cats (small, 4 years old, friendly, well-behaved, indoor-only).

- Happy to barter haircuts for rent price-adjustment!

- Can be completely content isolated from people but also enjoy community when it is intentional- so if I'm living on your property and you want to do dinners together or something, let's totally do it!
