Here’s a brief description of the room we have available for rent, along with the living situation.

When full, there are 5 people that live here. We share in food and cooking arrangements. Each person is responsible for shopping and cooking for the group one night a week, as well as cleaning the kitchen after. The benefit of that, of course, is to have a meal prepared for you 4 other nights in the week.
Other than that, the major responsibility is to do a weekly household chore which requires a minimum of a half hour a week. While the household is not vegetarian, we tend to eat a majority of vegetarian meals.

The house is 2 miles outside of Amherst center and 3 miles from UMass. The Amethyst Brook conservation area is right out the back door.

Flo and I own the house and have lived this way since the 70's. Yes, that puts us in our 50s. This should be no problem. It's nothing like living with your parents.

There are also 2 rabbits living in the house already, so we don't want any more animals. Some people have allergies, so that's something else to keep in mind. Also, we are planning on getting 2 cats.

Other things that can be factors for some.
- do you smoke ... if so, there's no point in further discussion.
- how long are you looking to stay? ... We are looking for longer commitments. There is no lease, since there are no guarantees that this will be the right situation for all concerned. But obviously we don't want to be looking for people every semester, so there's not much point in pursuing if you only expect to be around for a short stay.
- The room is approx. 10'x12' with 3 windows & a closet . There's no extra storage space.
- do you have a car. For some people the distance is not an issue, but for most, it can be. We are on the Belchertown Center/Gatehouse Rd. Bus line (#45)

The room is on the 2nd floor which consists of climbing 13 stairs, 3 stairs from the driveway to the porch, 1 from the porch to the living room. The room can be internet ready and I'm sure I can find a way to make it cable ready. Food is provided, provided you know how to cook and clean up after yourself and there is no eating or drinking in the room rented, I may be flexible on that one I don't know yet. Any "special diets" will be the responsibility of the person in need of it. The home is close to shopping and on bus routes, the stove, dryer and hot water run on gas and the house is heated with oil (not to worry the price stays the same throughout the year). About the living status of the house now, it is my girlfriend and I along with her 15 year old son and my 2 friendly dogs.
